Does anyone know what the tooth count is on the speedomter drive gear in the transmission?

Re: Engine Transplant for 88 LeMans

Thanks for the tip.

Yes, it's easy to swap the clutch fork lever between hydraulic and manual while the trans is disconnected from the engine.

Re: Engine Transplant for 88 LeMans

An original factory 1.6L engine is in the car right now. I converted to a 5 spd MT and did a small amount of wiring. 4 wheels disc brakes. I have looked for the Sunbird GT Engines and they are hard to come by. When I have found them, the seller wants $1,000 for the engine with lots of miles on them....

Engine Transplant for 88 LeMans

Some of you may recall that I have a 88 Pontiac LeMans with: Front and Rear SAAB 900 Turbo Suspension and Brakes Low Miles (~25k Miles now) 1.6L Engine Automatic to 5 Speed Manual Conversion I now wish to add some power so I was considering an engine transplant from the locally obtainable Leganza or...

Re: Pontiac LeMans Project Suspension

The SAAB half-shafts are currently on the car and work fine, but I noticed recently that I pushed the camber a little too far. When I corner hard on a cambered right-hander, there is a loud vibration until I slow down. My guess is that the half-shaft is separating at the CV joint. If it pulled from ...

Re: Pontiac LeMans Project Suspension

I'm looking into cutting the strut towers to move the strut back for caster and in for negative camber. Longer arms would have probably resulted in the half shafts being too short.

Cooling Fan Relay Location on LeMans

The cooling fan is not coming on at all on my LeMans. It's been that way since I put the new engine in. In hasn't been a huge problem, but I'd like to fix it now. I have verified that the fan works, and that the power wire is not energized at the fan. It's also not energized at the resistor. I'd lik...

Re: Pontiac LeMans Project Suspension

The car is feeling better now that the alignment has been done. I had installed new tie rod ends and lower ball joints. He couldn't get any negative camber out of the combo, so it's at 0 camber right now. It was very positive to start with. I still need to get negative camber out of it somehow. It's...

Pontiac LeMans Project Suspension

I finally got to the point where I could take the car down to the custom alignment shop. He was able to get the car to zero camber, but it wasn't easy as it started at more than +1.5. I'd really like to see -1.0 to -2.0 camber. I have the SAAB front springs and struts with 1.5 coils cut off just so ...

Re: LeMans Instr Panel Bulb

I got the bulbs and installed them. I switched to red to preserve night vision. Also of interest was that the dimming functions never worked while I've had the car, so I fixed those. The one on the left dims the center console, while the one to the right of the steering wheel dims the instrument pan...

Re: LeMans Instr Panel Bulb

Thanks for your help! The 286 base from your link was the part that let me find the bulb on the internet. The bulbs are: Incandescent Miniature 12 volt 1.2 Watt T1.5 Glass Width: 5mm Height: 17.4 mm W2x4.6d - European sub-miniature wedge (286) It turns out that they are pinch bulbs that can be separ...

LeMans Instr Panel Bulb

I need 4 new bulbs for the instrument gauge cluster on my 88 Pontiac LeMans. The markings on the bulb/integral twist-lock base are "Toshiba V2" "OS 12/12". The base looks like this one: http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&category=CAR&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2F74_t15.ht...
