Re: Lanos Engine Life

With 248.5k mi on my '01 Lanos, I just had a rebuilt engine installed. The original engine was leaking coolant from both ends of the head gasket. The engine was running fine - no foam in the oil or steam in the exhaust. I'm sure the compression was a bit weak, because it would bog on hills. If i onl...

Lanos 1.6l engine

Rebuildable 1.6 DOHC from a 2001 Lanos. Almost 250k mi, regular oil changes and timing belt changes. Head gasket is leaking coolant onto bell housing, no foamy oil or steamy exhaust. Valve cover, oil pan, and manifolds were transferred to replacement engine.

Re: Lanos Sleeper

Will the Nubira engine fit in the Lanos? Just a drop-in or any mods needed?

Re: Lanos 1.6l engine

The car now has 245k mi and due for timing belt at 280k. I'll probably replace the head gasket then if nothing catastrophic happens in the mean time. Also considering engine replacement. I saw in another thread a suggestion of using a 2.0l from the Nubira. How easily will that engine fit into the La...

Re: Lanos 1.6l engine

Problem fixed for now. I used 'Blue Devil Head Gasket Sealer' P/N 00209 ($35 at AutoZone) according to the instructions on the bottle. It mixes with antifreeze, so no need to flush. The car has been driven over 300 mi with no coolant loss yet. Of course I will keep an eye on it.

Re: Lanos 1.6l engine

Thanks for responding, daewooluvr. Although I would like to do the job myself, I don't have the facilities so I will have to have it done at a shop. I guess my main concern is how replacing only the head gasket might affect other parts such as rings and bottom end bearings. Also, the timing belt has...

Lanos 1.6l engine

My '01 Lanos with almost 244k mi has a coolant leak from the head gasket at the flywheel end. Rather than going to the expense of replacing the head gasket and all that goes along with it (rings? valve job? bottom end bearings?), I am considering replacing the engine with a rebuilt or low mileage us...

Re: bent clutch release shaft ?

I finally have a working clutch. Sorry, no pics, son I'll describe it the best I can. The fork that moves the clutch release bearing is clamped to a round shaft with only a cut-out for the clamp bolt to lock it in place. There is no spline or key. The notch in the shaft had worn, allowing the fork t...

Re: front strut problem

Have you tried Coats Daewoo? He's in Sacramento, CA, and has many new and used parts. I don't have the phone number, but you can get contact info on their website.

Re: bent clutch release shaft ?

OK - got the new hose. Since the hose is under the battery, I removed the battery and battery box for clear access. There were several small black flecks in the fluid that came out of the old hose. After replacing the hose and bleeding the system, the clutch pedal would still go to only about 2" fro...

Re: bent clutch release shaft ?

Well, the guys at the trans shop told me about the same thing the mechanic suggested. The rubber hose that goes to the slave cylinder has collapsed on the inside and is not allowing fluid to pass through and move the throwout bearing. I ordered a new hose - should be here Thur.

Re: bent clutch release shaft ?

I found this thread wile searching my problem and think I may have a bent clutch fork: I have a 2001 Lanos with 228k mi, original clutch. A few days ago, the clutch started not going all the way to the floor, and not fully disengaging. Since the clutch start switch was not closing, I by-passed it so...

AutoZone had the EGR valve in stock for my 2001 Lanos, 1.6l engine.

About $150 US.

Transmission noise

My '01 Lanos is/was making some strange sounds that I think are coming from the transmission (5-speed) or clutch. The car has 210k mi and all of the trans/clutch parts are original. The first odd sound was a mid- to high-pitched screeching noise that happened going downhill at about 50-60 mph with m...
