Re: New 2001 Lanos Sport Owner with some Q's
My Lanos is an '01 hatchback 5-spd with 182k mi. The timing belt was last changed at 178k (third time since I bought the car new in Sep '01), and the EGR valve at about 180k. Oil has been changed every 3-5k. My drive to work is almost 100 mi round trip and the car gets 36+ mpg. Most parts not availa...

Re: Stumble
Thanks for the responses. Sorry about not getting back sooner, been busy. The stumble went away on its own. About a month before I posted the problem, I had the AC serviced because it was not blowing very cold air. The refrigerant was pulled out so I could replace the compressor and receiver/drier m...

Re: Stumble
A/C off, man trans. It idles smoothly when started cold and does not stumble when I stop after about 6 miles. It seems to be linked to being not quite up to full temp.

My '01 Lanos has 178k mi, recently replaced EGR valve. Fuel filter, spark plugs and cables were replaced at the same time. Air filter was replaced at the last oil change. The CEL is not on and there are no codes stored. My issue is this: about four miles into my drive to work, there is a traffic lig...

Re: Lanos Engine Life
Thanks for the reply, PB. As you can see, miles will accumulate much sooner than time. Good to know that with care, I can expect many more miles from this car. I plan to continue changing oil every 3-5k and timing belt at 50-55k. Maybe this one will get 500k!!!

Re: Lanos Engine Life
I would be thrilled if i get that many miles out of mine! I'm about 92K and looking at my second timing belt in a few thousand. how did you knwo your EGR was bad? did you just change it with no symptoms? The CEL came on with three codes: P0137, P0172, P0405. (See my post "P0137 Code." http://www.da...

Lanos Engine Life
My '01 Lanos has 176k mi, just replaced the EGR valve and (third) timing belt. Oil has been changed every 3-5,000 miles, new fuel filter a couple of months ago. The car is driven aprox 100 mi per day, mostly highway, and gives me 36-37 mpg. My question is: About how many miles can I expect before th...

Re: P0137 Code
3 codes there actually as they are repeated. the most important to note is p0405 which is egr pintle position low voltage. this translates to position. replace the egr valve, it is malfunctioning and driving the 02 sensors out of whack. Thanks, Trey. Replacing the EGR did the trick. I had planned o...

Re: P0137 Code
I'm not a mechanic but always look for the easiest fix first..... did you change the fuel filter? have the fuel pressure checked? I was having similar problems and went through all the electrical stuff first (plugs, wires, etc) and it turned out to be fuel. I did the filter and it got better as i g...

Re: P0137 Code
Update: Still have not had time to get the readings on the sensors as Trey suggested, but the CEL came back on with more codes - five total. 1) P0172, 2) P0137, 3) P0405, 4) P0172, 5) P0405. Since some of the codes indicate lean and others are saying rich, I'm guessing not all of these sensors are b...

Re: P0137 Code
Thanks for the response, Trey. I've been out of town for the last week and not able to get on the forum. The 1404 code still has not returned and although the CEL went out on its own, the P0137 code still shows on my code reader as 'pending.' Driving at a steady speed at small throttle opening (60-6...

P0137 Code
Greetings, all. I'm new to this board and this is my first question. Many thanks to Trey05woo for his excellent help in checking and cleaning the EGR valve on my '01 Lanos with 174k mi on the clock and was showing a P1404 code. (I'd give him rep if this board had it -Thanks, Trey.) Following his pro...
